Wonderful wonderful Copenhagen!

"To wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen
Salty old queen of the sea"

To those of you who remember Danny Kaye singing it in the 1952 movie "Hans Christian Andersen", we sailed around the waterways singing it in our heads and occasionally out loud. What a wonderful way to see Copenhagen! So relaxing! The tide was so high we couldn't go up a lot of the smaller canals so we saw things tourists don't normally see, and learnt quite a bit of history from the tour guide who spoke perfect English. Referring to some buildings, he described them as being where ships were designed and plans conceptualised! I was impressed.

The Little Mermaid!
Copenhagen is a city built on the water. It's filled with houseboats, pleasure boats, big boats, small boats, old boats, new boats, sailing boats, motor boats, even navy boats! We sailed out to the harbour to see the little mermaid statue- biggest disappointment ever- it's tiny and not even off the shore-hardly worth taking a photo of! ( see above photo) I always imagined it was out in the MIDDLE of the harbour!
The Opera House

Christiania

Boats, boats, boats

The copper in this dome was melted down from pots and pans and cutlery

A lone seagull

Two swans...maybe they gave Hans Christian Andersen inspiration for "The Ugly Duckling"

Monument to a famous naval Admiral who was killed by a British cannonball which snapped the mast in half. It looks like a snapped off mast!

Danish Flag

Living on the canal

Interesting tower with crown atop. Some really strange towers in Copenhagen.
